HAZEL TREE Corylus avellana (Betulaceae)

Very rustic for all climates and even for the drained calcareous soils. Plantation frame from around 4-5 meters.

POLINITION: The hazel is monoecious: where male flowers exists (pollen) and female flowers (hazelnuts) are on the same plant; they are located on the branches of the preceding year and usually bloom with a lag of a few days or weeks between the two types of flowers. So you need to ensure good pollination by planting different compatible varieties.

PRUNING: Pruning is done to favor the balance of plant and renew old branches which tend to strip.
